Daily Sea Surface Temperatures

This directory contains daily analyzed sea surface temperatures (SSTs) of
the latest 30 days, for each 0.25 degree latitudinal and longitudinal
squares for the region from 120E to 160E and between 20N and 50N in the
western North Pacific.  The daily SSTs are analyzed at the Office of Marine
Prediction of the JMA.  The analysis uses NOAA/AVHRR data processed at
Meteorological Satellite Center of Japan and in situ SST observation by
ships and buoys.  Since April 2004, AQUA/AMSR-E data have been introduced
in the analysis.  AQUA/AMSR-E data is provided by Japan Aerospace 
Exploration Agency.

where  YYYY is a year  (e.g. 1999)


Data format
    The each daily data consists of 121 records, one header record and 
following 120 data records from north to south.  The header record contains
the year, month, and day.  Each data record is written as 160I3 from west
to east, with unit in 0.1C.   That is, the first value of the first data
record is for the grid centered at 49.875 degree North and 120.125 degree
East, and the last value of the last data record is for that at 20.125 
degree North and 159.875 degree East, respectively. '999' and '888' denote
the region of land and sea ice, respectively.  '777' denotes that the value
cannot be determined for other reasons.
